Flood Risk Analysis: The Case of Tigris River (Tikrit /Iraq)

The study of flood risks has a fundamental role in ensuring the safety cities near rivers and drawing up plans to protect them during future floods. This aims manage potential risks, Tikrit city was used as case study. daily discharge Tigris River area provided by Iraqi Ministry Water Resources from 2019 2022. HEC-RAS software utilized build 2-D model simulate scenarios. First, calibrated adjusting value Manning's coefficient (n), it found that n = 0.031 reflects nature region because Nash-Sutcliff Error (NSE) 0.93. Then, efficiency verified comparing model’s results with area’s satellite images, showed great match. Following that, under different flooding size areas exposed increased discharges passing through River. For instance, increasing 800m3/s flooded 13.7%, while 1500 m3/s 90.7 % compared river’s normal flow. Also, eastern regions riverbanks are more vulnerable than western side ground levels low on part riverbanks.
